Meditation and breath work is a wonderful way to unwind and prepare for a restful night's sleep. Meditation and breathwork can have far-reaching benefits in many areas of our life. Slowing the breathing rate down helps the regulation of the nervous system, leading to better management of emotions, and increased cognitive performance. On an emotional level, the benefits of breathing practices & meditation include better sleep, improved management of negative emotions, and improved attention and concentration. Breathing practices & meditation can also benefit the body by supporting the lumbar and pelvic area, massaging the internal organs, improving the efficiency of the lymphatic system, balancing the autonomic nervous system, and reducing levels of cytokines, which are linked to inflammation. From a spiritual perspective, breathing practices & meditation link the unconscious autonomic nervous system to the conscious attention on the breath. It brings one’s attention back to the present moment enabling us to live in the now. With regular practice, we can enhance self-awareness through interception and embodiment which can help us to become more responsive and less reactive.
